-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This 3 day camp targets the areas of receiving, defensive positioning, blocking balls, fielding bunts, passed balls, pop ups, intangible catching fundamentals, throwing mechanics, ball transfer, foot work, receiving a throw and blocking the plate. Also the event dives into working with a pitching staff, calling a game/pitch selection, detecting weaknesses in hitters, taking control of a game and communicating as a leader on the field. The final day of the event ends with the famous Catcher's Olympics which implements most of these areas in a fun formatted timed game. Little League, High School, College and Professional levels will be divided into groups. Ages normally range from 8-24.

Catching Camp Instructors (All instructors participate in one or multiple events)

Jayson Brown- Former professional and current USC assistant coach

Carl Nichols- Former Baltimore Oriole and current Instructor at the MLB RBI Academy.

Matt Stark- Former Toronto Blue Jay and current COO of National Catchers Assoc. (NCA)

Jim McNamara- Former San Francisco Giant and current player agent Scott Boras Corp.

Rafael Melchione- Former professional and current catching instructor Los Angles Angels

Jeff DeWillis- Former Toronto Blue Jay and current High School baseball coach in Texas.

Ronnie Deck- Former professional and current Baltimore Orioles bullpen catcher.

Dan McNamara- Former professional and current Washington Nationals bullpen catcher.

Mike Baker- Former professional and current Arizona area instructor.

Event Summary: By far the most experienced staff assembled for a specific position baseball instructional camp. Catching and catching instruction at all levels is a lost art, the NCA has a passion to develop catchers of all ages the right way. Catching starts with the attitude of wanting to catch. Catching or receiving the baseball has always been the priority of a catcher, but how he receives the ball and how his body and glove are positioned are key factors in receiving success. We have seen over the years at every level finding a good receiving catcher who is consistent is tough to find. Once you add throwing to bases, transferring the ball to your throwing hand and footwork it's event tougher to find a good one. Catching is a intangible postion, the ability to control a game and work with umpires and your pitchers is a must. Anticipation and focus are keys to a catchers success. All these topics will be worked on and talked about through each 3 day event. Our staff looks forward to working with your son or daughter.
